Genoese Dictionary: Italian to Genoese Translator
Genoese Dictionary, also known as TIG (Traduttore Italiano Genovese), is a simple Android application that aims to provide translations from Italian to Genoese. Developed by Giuseppe Sanero, this free app is categorized under Education & Reference.
The Genoese Dictionary offers translations for individual Italian words into Genoese, a dialect spoken in the Genoa region of Italy. It is important to note that Genoese translations cannot be done word-for-word, but rather should follow the correct usage of the dialect. The app is structured to provide the Italian lemma followed by its part of speech and a few words to fully explain its meaning. Up to three Genoese words are provided for translation. The gender of the Genoese noun is indicated only when it differs from the corresponding Italian word.
The Genoese Dictionary includes references from two main sources: Giovanni Casaccia's "Dizionario Genovese-Italiano" (1876) and Carlo Olivari's "Laboratorio di lingua genovese" (The sources are indicated within square brackets, providing the page number for Casaccia and a simple reference for Olivari. The app also allows for user collaboration, with the option to suggest words and translations via email.
Please note that the Genoese Dictionary translates individual words and phrases, not complete sentences.
